EFL’s mission is powered by two core divisions- Legal and Science, working together to safeguard Sri Lanka’s environment through law, research, and advocacy
Legal Division
Led by EFL’s in-house environmental lawyer, the Legal Division drives the organization’s public interest litigation and policy engagement. The team of legal officers works tirelessly to hold environmental violators accountable and ensure compliance with national laws. EFL also collaborates with leading counsels who offer their expertise pro bono, representing the organization in landmark cases that shape Sri Lanka’s environmental jurisprudence.
Science Division
The Science Division comprises scientists and project officers dedicated to research, conservation, and community empowerment. The team designs and implements field-based projects, conducts scientific investigations, and leads capacity-building initiatives to strengthen environmental stewardship. They also respond to emerging ecological threats, partnering with government agencies and communities to develop practical, evidence-based solutions.
